Session One:
Community Sep 2012

Planner: Sharon Miller-Dombroski
Participants gain knowledge about the history of Leadership Upper Valley, the expectations of the program, and to begin to set learning goals. Community day also allows participants to gain new insights about the Upper Valley as well as to get to know fellow participants

Session Two:
Health and Human Services Oct 2012

Planner:
Builds understanding of community dynamics. Learn about Services supporting institutions of Health and Human Service. Understand the needs of not-for-profit organizations. Learn how to participate as an engaged citizen on a not-for-profit Board.

Session Three:
Education Nov 2012

Planner:
Gain an understanding of the educational challenges, assets and innovations of the education system in the Upper Valley. Explore opportunities for involvement and further the development of education in the region.

Session Four:
Art and the Creative EconomyDec 2012

Planner:
Develops first-hand knowledge of how the arts impact our lives in this region's economy. Why arts allows us to attract and retain good employees. Hands-on and practical. What creative connections are in your workplace? How arts and community work better together.

Session Five:
Economic DevelopmentJan 2013

Planner:
How does this region attract and develop business? Growth: what kind is positive, how is it monitored, issues of public opinion. Business and civic leaders introduce you to growth potential and limits in our region. Standard practices and innovative systems. Entrepreneurship.

Session Six:
Communications Feb 2013

Planner:
Using case studies and interactive group sharing, learn from marketing professionals how communications help shape success, and how to create the environment in which effective messaging develops and endures - in all media.

Session Seven:
Government & Politics Mar 2013

Planner: l
State, county, and town/city governmental bodies defined. How can you be a more engaged citizen? Overcoming challenges to meaningful involvement.

Session Eight:
Transportation & Livable CommunitiesApr 2013

Planner:
Understand the impacts of our transportation network and how our travel choices effect our environment, economy and social fabric. Learn how mobility options add value to a community as well as gain knowledge about land use patterns in the Upper Valley.

Session Nine:
EnvironmentMay 2013

Planner:
What does an environmentally sustainable Upper Valley look like? We will explore the implications of environmental sustainability on our quality of life and economic vitality. This Triple Bottom Line approach will seek to broaden participant's perspectives on the interplay of environment, economy and community as we address questions relating to air, water, and noise pollution, habitat fragmentation, nature deficit disorder, and the proliferation of invasive plant and animal species.

Session Ten:
Graduation June 2013

Wrapping it all up. How are you already using the exposure you've had to new ideas this year? How have your workplace and your personal life benefited by your participation? What challenges arose in introducing change in your life, and how did you overcome them? How will you be an active Leadership Upper Valley alumnus?
