Newsletter August 31, 2010
It is already the end of August – kids are headed back to school and colored leaves are appearing on the ground, my how time flies! Autumn is an excellent time for Questing. Getting out in the crisp, cool air is an inspirational experience – and the views can’t be beat. Make it a priority to get out on a hilltop Quest in September. May we suggest the Palisades Quest in Fairlee, Vermont or French’s Ledges Quest in Plainfield, NH. Clues for both of these Quests are included in Best of Valley Quest, our newest book available at public libraries and local bookstores.

Quest of the Month
The Quest of the month is a a brand new Quest, Newbury Village – It’s Monumental! And the report from our Quest testers, George and Nancy Smith, is that this walk will take you through part of the village you would never normally go to and it offers up some interesting history and good views from the railroad bridge. This Quest was created by Nancy Goodrich and the 4th grades of Newbury Elementary in 2010.. You can find the quest on our website.

Upper Valley 250
Next summer marks the 250th Anniversary of the charters of many towns in the Upper Valley. Lots of things are being planned to commemorate this anniversary. It is a great time for all of us to learn about the towns we live in. What happened 250 years ago? Who arrived here and where did they come from – and who was here before them and what were their lives like? Valley Quest is hosting the second the two Early Settlement Quest workshops Oct. 1 & 2 in Lebanon, NH. We are hoping to get early settlement Quests written in all of the towns as part of the UV 250. These Quests will be treasures for years to come. We still have some openings for teachers – grades 2-8 and historians. Contact me if you would like to register, laura@vitalcommunities.org. And you are not a teacher and want to be involved, contact me and I will connect you with the 250th committee in your town.
